Audi has meticulously designed the new 2025 SQ6 e-tron, along with its sibling, the Q6 e-tron, with a strong focus on the user interface and interior accommodations. This innovative approach highlights the increasing role of technology in modern vehicles. While Audi’s interiors have always been known for their sophistication and smart design, the SQ6 e-tron’s interior is just one of many features that set it apart.

The Q6 and SQ6 e-tron are pivotal models in Audi’s transition to electric vehicles. They debut a new Android Auto-based infotainment system and are the first models to utilize the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, which is shared with the Porsche Macan EV. Positioned between the smaller Q4 e-tron and the larger Q8 e-tron, the SQ6 e-tron offers an electric alternative to Audi’s popular Q5 and SQ5 models. Here, we’ll delve into the sportier SQ6 e-tron, as the Q6 we tested was a European model with less power than what will be available in the U.S.

Inside-Out Design

The SQ6 e-tron’s interior concept blends form and function seamlessly. Red accents in the stitched upholstery and an LED light bar across the dash, which provides visual cues for turn signals, navigation, and charging status, add to the aesthetic appeal. The cabin is thoughtfully crafted with soft-touch materials, such as a ledge on the dash to rest your hand when using the central 14.5-inch touchscreen. This setup is complemented by an 11.9-inch instrument display and an optional 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen for video playback, not visible to the driver while driving.

Audi’s new infotainment system is data-rich and integrates features like climate control and vehicle settings. Despite its complexity, it is user-friendly, even when navigating unfamiliar areas. The SQ6 e-tron also includes an AI voice assistant, a head-up display with augmented-reality navigation, and premium Bang & Olufsen audio systems with up to 830 watts and 20 speakers, including two in each front headrest.

The interior ergonomics are intuitive, with minimal secondary controls on capacitive-touch panels. The cabin remains quiet, and the sport seats provide comfort during long drives. Although the rear legroom is slightly less than the SQ5’s, it remains ample for most passengers.

Stylish Exterior

The SQ6 e-tron shares its sophisticated yet conventional sheet metal with the Q6. It features prominent fender bulges, adding contour to its design. For those seeking a more distinct look, sleeker Sportback models and high-performance RS versions will be available later. The vehicle’s lighting elements stand out, particularly the new high-definition OLED taillights and customizable light signatures on the top-tier Prestige trim. However, the matrix LED headlights’ active high-beam function will not be available in the U.S.

Polished Performance

All Q6 e-tron models, including the SQ6, feature dual motors and rear-biased all-wheel drive. The SQ6 e-tron produces 483 horsepower, which increases to 510 horsepower with launch control, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph in about four seconds. While Audi doesn’t provide a combined torque figure, it is estimated to exceed 500 pound-feet, ensuring strong performance.

The SQ6 e-tron differentiates itself from the Macan EV with specific chassis adjustments, including the lack of rear-wheel steering and a different packaging of the rear power unit. Despite these differences, the SQ6 e-tron delivers a refined and capable driving experience. It handles corners with agility and merges effortlessly onto highways. The vehicle’s body control, ride quality, steering, and braking are all top-notch, contributing to a confident and enjoyable drive.

Dynamic mode enhances the SQ6 e-tron’s responsiveness and introduces a futuristic EV sound, which can be deactivated if desired. The standard air springs and adaptive dampers smooth out road imperfections, and the steering-wheel paddles allow for adjustable regenerative braking. The strongest one-pedal mode can provide up to 0.25 g of braking force, with other settings available to suit personal preferences. The Auto mode intelligently manages deceleration based on navigation data and sensor input.

The 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron impresses with its combination of cutting-edge technology, luxurious interior, and dynamic performance, making it a strong contender in the electric SUV market.
